Pembroke uses shootout to best Smiths Falls, 5-4 (2-1 SO)Pembroke Memorial Center Sun, Mar 02, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Pembroke Lumber Kings defeated the Smiths Falls Bears in a shootout 5-4 (2-1 SO). The shootout lasted for five attempts between the teams. Smiths Falls' shootout goal was scored by Stefano Momesso. Pembroke also got a shootout goal from Kyle Shaw.The Lumber Kings saw a two-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Pembroke made the score 4-2 on a goal by Dylan Staples at 9:47 in the third period. The Bears evened things up at 4-4 on a goal by Momesso at 19:59 in the third period. The Lumber Kings' offense rang up 43 shots on Smiths Falls' net. Penalties took their toll on Pembroke, as its penalty kill unit let in two power play goals. The Lumber Kings were led by Mark Petaccio, who had two goals. Petaccio scored the first of his two goals at 10:19 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls. Felix Chamberland assisted on the tally. Petaccio's next tally made the score 3-2 Pembroke with 5:43 left in the second period. Shaw also scored for Pembroke. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Dylan Chase, Lucas Gonu, and Jordan Larson, who each chipped in one. The Bears excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Smiths Falls forced Pembroke goalie Darren Smith to work between the pipes, taking 34 shots. Smiths Falls also got points from Michael Buonincontri, who also finished with one goal and two assists. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Zachary Senyshyn as well. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Brandon Lesway, who had two and Domenic Camastra and Victor Beaulac, who contributed one a piece. The Lumber Kings' Smith stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Pembroke incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Cory Simic made 38 saves for the Bears on 42 shots. Smiths Falls incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
