Smiths Falls holds on for 5-3 win against Cornwall

The Cornwall Colts tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Smiths Falls Bears would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 5-3.

Smiths Falls took a 5-2 lead during the third period, only to have Cornwall storm back on a Ross Craig goal 19:40 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The Bears pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 16 penalty minutes.

Smiths Falls was led by Nic Marchand, who registered one goal and one assist. Marchand scored 13:21 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Smiths Falls. Stefano Momesso assisted on the tally. Others who scored for Smiths Falls included Ryan Duhaime, who had two and Chris King and Karson McCartney, who scored one goal each. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Chris MacMillan, who had two and Michael Buonincontri and Victor Beaulac, who contributed one a piece.

The Colts were led by Tanner Spink, who grabbed one goal and one assist. Spink scored 14:13 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Dean Derouchie picked up the assist. Cornwall also got a goal from Jay DAmour as well. More assists for Cornwall came via Cal Hofford, Marly Quince, Pierre Ouellette, and Ryan Patulli, who each chipped in one.

Cory Simic made 19 saves for the Bears on 22 shots. Smiths Falls registered one goal on five power play opportunities. For the Bears, Taylor Henry was ejected from the game. Cornwall's Anthony Kuhnreich stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Colts incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
