Sturtz's goals lift Carleton Place to 5-2 victory over Smiths Falls

The Carleton Place Canadians relied on the scoring touch of Andy Sturtz, who netted two goals, to beat the Smiths Falls Bears, 5-2.

Sturtz scored on the power play at 13:24 into the first period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place and again while on the power play 9:59 into the third to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place.

Carleton Place's defensemen played an important role in the offense, chipping in two goals.

Carleton Place also got a goal from Kelly Summers as well. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Anthony Latina and Brett DAndrea, who each chipped in one and Owen Stewart and Evan Peterson, who contributed two a piece.

Smiths Falls' offense rang up 34 shots on the Canadians' net.

The Bears were helped by Nic Marchand, who tallied one goal. Marchand scored 6:06 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Carleton Place. Sebastien Barrette provided the assist. Michael Buonincontri also scored for Smiths Falls. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Brandon Lesway, who had one and Victor Beaulac, who had two.

Guillaume Therien made 32 saves for Carleton Place on 34 shots. The Canadians incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Smiths Falls' Michael Pinios stopped 21 shots out of the 25 that he faced. The Bears incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
