Cumberland wins tough contest against Hawkesbury, 3-2Robert Hartley Sports Complex1 Fri, Feb 21, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
The game between the Cumberland Grads and the Hawkesbury Hawks was tight through all 60 minutes, but in the end Cumberland emerged with a 3-2 win. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Jean-Gabriel Lacombe secured the win for the Grads with a goal in the third period. Cumberland was paced by Lacombe, who finished with one goal. Lacombe scored 16:53 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Cumberland. Maxime St.Pierre assisted on the tally. Cumberland also had goals scored by Bruno Cheff and Mark Golberg, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were Nicholas Ford, Travis Douglas, and Matthew Morin, who each chipped in one. Hawkesbury's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Cumberland power plays. The Hawks were helped by Carl Faucher, who registered one goal. Faucher scored 23 seconds into the third period to make the score 2-1 Hawkesbury. Yanik Laliberte picked up the assist. Nicolas Vlahos also scored for Hawkesbury. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Daniel Brickley, Jonathan Cyr, and Francis Landers, who contributed one a piece. Reilly Turner made 28 saves for the Grads on 30 shots. Cumberland incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. Gunner Rivers rejected 25 shots on goal for Hawkesbury. The Hawks incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Hawkesbury ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Damien Charette was ejected from the game.
