Nepean beats Kanata 3-2 after comeback scare

The Kanata Stallions tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Nepean Raiders would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2.

Nepean made the score 3-1 on a goal by Mac MacSorley at 2:06 in the third period, and Kanata got as close as 3-2 when Nic LaBurn scored 9:59 into the third period.

Mitchell Herlihey had two goals to lead the Raiders to victory. Herlihey found the back of the net seven seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Nepean and again while 15:14 into the second to make the score 2-1 Nepean.

Nepean forced the Stallions goalie Cole Skinner to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

In addition, Nepean received assists from Keenan Hodgson, who had two and Tanner Williams, Christopher Smith, and Michael Vered, who each chipped in one.

Kanata's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on four Nepean power plays.

The Stallions were led by Connor Cobbold, who racked up one goal and one assist. Cobbold scored on the power play 12:26 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Kanata had gotten the advantage when the Raiders' Williams was sent off for high sticking. More assists for Kanata came via David Higgs, who had one.

Ryan Mulder made 28 saves for Nepean on 30 shots. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Skinner recorded 28 saves for the Stallions. Kanata incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
