Smith stymies Nepean, Pembroke wins 6-1

Darren Smith had a standout game with 31 saves, and the Pembroke Lumber Kings beat the Nepean Raiders 6-1.

Pembroke's penalty kill excelled, as the Lumber Kings gave up zero goals despite allowing six power plays.

Pembroke was sparked by Lucas Gonu, who tallied one goal and one assist. Gonu scored 18:32 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Pembroke. Dylan Staples picked up the assist.

The Lumber Kings stifled Nepean's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pembroke forced the Raiders goalie Brett Magnus to work between the pipes, taking 36 shots. The Lumber Kings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Pembroke averages 3.5 goals per game.

Pembroke also got points from Colin Kruse, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Jake Staples, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Pembroke included Mark Petaccio, Felix Chamberland, and Keegan Harper, who each put in one. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Jordan Larson, who had two and Sam Gleason, Fraser Turner, and Trent Durocher, who each chipped in one.

Nepean's offense operated below it season average. The Raiders average 3.1 goals per game. Nepean's offense rang up 32 shots on the Lumber Kings' net.

The Raiders were led by Christopher Smith, who scored the team's only goal. Smith scored 2:42 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pembroke. Keenan Hodgson provided the assist.

Pembroke incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Magnus recorded 30 saves for Nepean. The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
