Hawkesbury's comeback falls short, Gloucester wins 4-2

The Gloucester Rangers came close to giving away a three-goal lead to the Hawkesbury Hawks, but did just enough to escape with a 4-2 victory.

Gloucester led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Rangers' Max Veronneau's scored at 12:54 in the second period to put Gloucester up 4-1.

Clark Veenstra was all over the ice for the Rangers, as he had two goals in the win. Veenstra scored at 9:18 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Gloucester and again while 12:29 into the second to make the score 3-1 Gloucester.

Gloucester's offense rang up 34 shots on Hawkesbury's net.

Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Tristan Whynot, Vincent Guimond, and Lucas Zwaagstra, who each chipped in one and Trevor Dulong and Greg Jansz, who contributed two a piece.

The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. Hawkesbury forced the Rangers goalie Doug Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 31 shots.

The Hawks were helped by Carl Faucher, who finished with one goal. Faucher scored on the power play 17:58 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Gloucester. Hawkesbury had gained a power play chance when Dulong was whistled for cross checking. Antonios Roumeliotis picked up the assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Zach Car as well. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Damien Charette and CJ Stubbs, who each chipped in one.

Johnston recorded 29 saves for Gloucester. The Rangers incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Hawks' Gunner Rivers stopped 30 shots out of the 34 that he faced. Hawkesbury incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
