Smiths Falls outlasts Kemptville, 4-2

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Smiths Falls Bears escaped with a 4-2 victory over the Kemptville 73s.

Smiths Falls gained the winning advantage on a goal by Victor Beaulac 7:48 into the third period and hung on until final buzzer.

The Bears pulled out the victory even though they were hit with 14 penalty minutes.

Smiths Falls was led by Beaulac, who finished with one goal and one assist.

The Bears' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on six Kemptville power plays. Smiths Falls forced Kemptville goalie Matt Couvrette to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots.

Smiths Falls also got points from Michael Buonincontri, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Brandon McMartin and Brandon Lesway, who scored one goal each. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Karson McCartney and Michael Pinios, who each chipped in one and Chris MacMillan and Stefano Momesso, who contributed two a piece.

The Bears were unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Kemptville eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The 73s could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 20 minutes in penalties during the game.

Kemptville was helped by Erik Brown, who registered one goal. Brown scored 15:00 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Jesse Blais provided the assist. Dean Galasso also scored for Kemptville. More assists for Kemptville came via Doug Harvey and Brandon Seatter, who each chipped in one.

Pinios rejected 40 shots on goal for Smiths Falls. The Bears registered two goals on nine power play opportunities. The 73s' Couvrette stopped 33 shots out of the 36 that he faced.
