Pembroke's Gonu deadly on offense in 6-3 win against Cumberland

Lucas Gonu had two goals to lead the Pembroke Lumber Kings to a 6-3 victory over the Cumberland Grads.

Gonu's tallies came on the power play at 58 seconds into the second period to make the score 4-2 Pembroke and 8:26 into the second to make the score 5-2 Pembroke.

Pembroke bested its season scoring average. This season, the Lumber Kings average 3.5 goals per contest.

Pembroke also got points from Colin Kruse, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Mark Petaccio also scored for Pembroke. Other players who recorded assists for Pembroke were Sam Gleason, Dylan Staples, Steven Johnston, and Keegan Harper, who contributed one a piece and Felix Chamberland, Jordan Larson, and Kyle Shaw, who each chipped in two.

Cumberland's offense rang up 31 shots on Pembroke's net.

The Grads were helped by Martin Frechette, who had one goal. Frechette scored on the power play 17:47 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Cumberland had taken the advantage when the Lumber Kings' Gonu got sent off for interference. David Bennett picked up the assist. Cumberland additionally got points from Bennett, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Travis Douglas as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Maxime St.Pierre, who had two and Nicholas Ford, Jean-Gabriel Lacombe, and Matt Allan, who contributed one a piece.

Sean Keating recorded 28 saves for Pembroke. The Lumber Kings incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. The Grads' starting goalie, Reilly Turner, made three saves and finished with the loss before he was taken out in favor of Kevin Gollmer, who stopped 21 shots. Cumberland incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
