GAME RECAP

Ottawa's comeback falls short, Carleton Place wins 6-4

Carleton Place Arena    Sun, Feb 09, 2014

The Carleton Place Canadians, who led by three goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by the Ottawa Senators and clinched a 6-4 victory.

Carleton Place led by three goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Canadians' Vinny Post's scored at 14:48 in the third period to put Carleton Place up 5-2.

Post was all over the ice for the Canadians, as he tallied two goals in the win.

In a losing effort, Ottawa was sparked by Matthew Dupont, who finished with two goals. Dupont scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 15:30 into the third period to make the score 5-3 Carleton Place. A unsportsmanlike conduct penalty on Post had put the Senators on the power play. Robert Michel provided the assist. Dupont's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Carleton Place with 1:15 left in the third period. Ryan Collins picked up the assist.

Carleton Place's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Canadians finished with 32 penalty minutes.

Carleton Place also got points from Stephen Baylis, who also registered one goal and one assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Tyson Stewart as well. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Adam Lloyd, Brett DAndrea, and Evan Peterson, who contributed one a piece and Larry Smith, Stephen Cooney, and Anthony McVeigh, who each chipped in two.

Ottawa put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Carleton Place to score on any of its four power plays. The Senators kept the Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Guillaume Therien made 28 saves on 32 shots.

Justin Charbonneau also scored for Ottawa. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were David Chevrier, who had one and Deric Boudreau and Zac Tierney, who each chipped in two.

Alexandre Savard-Belanger rejected 17 shots on goal for Ottawa. The Senators incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors.
