Huge game by Sturtz boosts Carleton Place over Cumberland, 6-3

Andy Sturtz had two goals and one assist to lead the Carleton Place Canadians to a 6-3 victory over the Cumberland Grads.

Sturtz scored at 6:42 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place and again while on the power play 15:58 into the second to make the score 5-3 Carleton Place.

Carleton Place's offense rang up 32 shots on Cumberland's net.

Carleton Place also got points from Brett DAndrea, who also registered one goal and one assist and Craig Pefley, who also had two goals and one assist to lead the team in points. Connor Merkley also scored for Carleton Place. More assists for Carleton Place came via Larry Smith, who had two and Devin Campbell, Tyson Stewart, Adam Lloyd, Stephen Cooney, and Vinny Post, who contributed one a piece.

The Canadians were unable to stop the Grads from sending pucks towards the net, and Cumberland eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

The Grads were led by Mark Golberg, who racked up two goals and one assist. Golberg scored the first of his two goals at 10:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Travis Douglas picked up the assist. Golberg's next tally made the score 4-3 Carleton Place with 11:30 left in the second period. Cumberland earned a power play opportunity when DAndrea was put in the box for slashing. Cameron Roth provided the assist. Cumberland additionally got points from Martin Frechette, who also finished with one goal and one assist.

Patrick Kealey made 28 saves for Carleton Place on 31 shots. The Canadians incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Grads' Kevin Gollmer stopped 26 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Cumberland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For the Grads, Neil Penner was ejected from the game.
