Ottawa uses shootout to best Nepean, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Ottawa Senators defeated the Nepean Raiders in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured six attempts between both teams.

Ottawa came back from a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Senators trailed 3-1 after a goal by Nepean's Tanner Williams at 1:12 in the third period. Ottawa knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Matthew Dupont at 19:35 in the third period.

The Senators got the win behind a great game by Zac Tierney, who had one goal and two assists. Tierney scored 16:18 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Nepean. Joe Shecter picked up the assist.

The Raiders were unable to stop Ottawa from sending pucks towards the net, and the Senators eventually piled up 58 shots on goal.

Ottawa also got a goal from Luc Deschamps as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Justin Charbonneau, who had one and Ryan Collins, who had two.

Nepean put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ottawa to score on any of its five power plays. The Raiders' offense rang up 31 shots on the Senators' net.

Nepean was helped by Mac MacSorley, who had one goal and one assist. MacSorley scored 9:28 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Nepean. Michael Vered assisted on the tally. Nepean additionally got points from Williams, who also registered one goal and one assist. Felix Page also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Keenan Hodgson and Christopher Smith, who contributed one a piece.

Ottawa's Alexandre Savard-Belanger stopped 28 shots out of the 31 that he faced. The Senators incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Ryan Mulder recorded 54 saves for the Raiders. Nepean incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mathieu Galipeau was ejected from the game.
