xOttawa wins tough contest against xKemptville, 6-4

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the xOttawa Senators escaped with a 6-4 victory over the xKemptville 73s.

Neither team gained more than a two-goal lead, and Ryan Collins's goal in the third period proved to be the difference maker.

Collins had two goals and one assist to lead xOttawa. Collins scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 4:36 into the second period to make the score 2-2. The Senators had gained a power play chance when Alex Row was whistled for cross checking. Joey Champigny picked up the assist. Collins' next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 xOttawa with 7:47 left in the third period. Thomas Crevier provided the assist.

xKemptville's power play was ineffective against xOttawa's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 4:44 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The the Senators penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 13 minors and one major for 31 minutes in penalty time. xOttawa surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. The Senators kept the 73s' goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Couvrette made 26 saves on 32 shots.

xOttawa additionally got points from Yannick Crete, who also registered one goal and two assists and Champigny, who also racked up one goal and one assist. xOttawa also had goals scored by Zackary Rheaume and Eric Clitsome, who each put in one. More assists for xOttawa came via Joe Shecter, who had two and Robert Michel, Luc Deschamps, Matthew Dupont, Michael Evelyn, and Zac Tierney, who each chipped in one.

xKemptville racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 12 minors and one major for 29 minutes in penalty time. The total exceeded the 22.0 minutes per game the 73s had been spending in the box.

xKemptville was helped by Dylan Giberson, who had one goal. Giberson scored 10:26 into the first period to make the score 1-0 xKemptville. Dean Galasso assisted on the tally. xKemptville also got points from Quinn Carroll, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Daniele Disipio, who also registered one goal and one assist. xKemptville also got a goal from Brandon Seatter as well. In addition, xKemptville received assists from Matt Tugnutt, who had two and Quinn Wichers and Cody Hendsbee, who contributed one a piece.

Ian Andriano rejected 22 shots on goal for xOttawa. The Senators registered two goals on eight power play opportunities. xOttawa ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Justin Charbonneau was ejected from the game. Team's Doug Harvey and Brandon Cole were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
