Smiths Falls uses big second period to beat Kanata, 7-0

The Smiths Falls Bears used a four-goal second period to put away the Kanata Stallions, 7-0.

Smiths Falls was sparked by Nicolas Coates, who registered one goal. Coates scored 25 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Zachary Senyshyn picked up the assist.

The Bears forced Stallions' netminders to work without much rest, taking 46 shots and forcing 39 saves. Cole Skinner made 26 stops and Daniel McCarthy made 13. Smiths Falls' penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Kanata power plays. The Bears' defensive effort looked to be improved. Smiths Falls averages 2.9 goals allowed per game. The Bears surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Smiths Falls has scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from Chris King, who also grabbed one goal and one assist, Victor Beaulac, who also finished with one goal and one assist, and Stefano Momesso, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Alek Deblois, Nic Marchand, and Neil Doef, who scored one goal each. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Cory Simic, Brandon McMartin, Ben Beasley, and Brandon Lesway, who contributed one a piece and Michael Buonincontri and Karson McCartney, who each chipped in two.

Kanata excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances. The Stallions could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Kanata averages 3.3 goals per game.

Simic rejected 15 shots on goal for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. The Stallions incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
