Cumberland survives Gloucester comeback, wins 3-2

The Gloucester Rangers tried to dig themselves out of a two-goal hole, but the Cumberland Grads held on for a 3-2 victory.

A goal by Riley Hennigar put Cumberland up 3-1 in the third period, but Gloucester pulled to within one on Vincent Guimond's tally 16:13 into the third period.

The Grads were paced by Hennigar, who had one goal. Hennigar scored on the power play 8:01 into the third period to make the score Cumberland. Cumberland had taken the advantage when the Rangers' Matt Rosebrook got sent off for interference. Neil Penner picked up the assist.

The Grads put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Gloucester to score on any of its four power plays. Cumberland forced the Rangers goalie Doug Johnston to work between the pipes, taking 38 shots.

Cumberland also had goals scored by David Bennett and Nicholas Ford, who each put in one. More assists for Cumberland came via Travis Douglas, Matthew Morin, Maxime St.Pierre, and Matt Allan, who contributed one a piece.

Gloucester's offense rang up 31 shots on the Grads' net.

The Rangers were helped by Matthieu Desautels, who registered one goal. Desautels scored 12:37 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cumberland. Matt Foget assisted on the tally. In addition, Gloucester received assists from Greg Jansz and Clark Veenstra, who each chipped in one.

Reilly Turner made 29 saves for Cumberland on 31 shots. The Grads incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Johnston recorded 35 saves for Gloucester. The Rangers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
