Smiths Falls uses shootout to best Brockville, 4-3 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Smiths Falls Bears defeated the Brockville Braves in a shootout 4-3 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. Smiths Falls also got a shootout goal from Stefano Momesso.

The Bears saw a three-goal lead disappear, but was able to secure the win in a shootout. Smiths Falls made the score 3-0 on a goal by Victor Beaulac at 10:02 in the second period. Brockville evened things up at 3-3 on a goal by Nathan Todd at 16:38 in the third period.

The Bears stifled the Braves' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Smiths Falls' offense rang up 45 shots on Brockville's net.

The Bears were helped by Brett Costello, who tallied one goal. Costello scored 13:31 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Smiths Falls. Karson McCartney provided the assist. Smiths Falls additionally got points from Chris King, who also finished with one goal and one assist and Beaulac, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Michael Buonincontri, who had one and Neil Doef, who had two.

The Braves excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Brockville kept Smiths Falls' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Pinios made 33 saves on 36 shots.

Brockville also had goals scored by Eric Israel and Jack Billings, who scored one goal each. More assists for Brockville came via Jonathan Power, Cory Wilson, Sean King, Hayden Hulton, and Ryan Cusin, who contributed one a piece.

The Bears incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Andrew Pikul made 41 saves for the Braves on 44 shots. Brockville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
