Smiths Falls downs Hawkesbury, 7-2

Brett Costello racked up two points to lead the Smiths Falls Bears to a 7-2 victory over the Hawkesbury Hawks.

Smiths Falls made Hawkesbury's goaltenders to work all game long, finishing with 36 shots and forcing 29 saves. JP Sabourin made 14 stops and Gunner Rivers made 15. The Bears surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Smiths Falls has scored at the pace of 3.9 goals per game during the current campaign.

Smiths Falls also got points from Victor Beaulac, who also registered one goal and one assist and Zachary Senyshyn, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Smiths Falls included Nic Marchand, who had two and Michael Buonincontri and Stefano Momesso, who each put in one. In addition, Smiths Falls received assists from Neil Doef, who had two and Ryan Duhaime, Alek Deblois, Daniel Lombardi, Brandon Lesway, Chris King, Sebastien Barrette, Darius Gibson, and Karson McCartney, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks were helped by Carl Faucher, who finished with two goals. Faucher scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 9:44 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Hawkesbury. Hawkesbury had gotten the advantage when the Bears' King was sent off for interference. Zach Car provided the assist. Faucher's next tally on the power play made the score 5-2 Smiths Falls with 2:59 left in the second period. The Hawks earned a power play opportunity when King was put in the box for interference. Car picked up the assist. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Daniel Brickley and CJ Stubbs, who each chipped in one.

Cory Simic made 20 saves for Smiths Falls on 22 shots. The Bears incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Hawkesbury incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
