Nepean uses shootout to best Ottawa, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Nepean Raiders defeated the Ottawa Senators in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for 10 attempts between the teams.

Nepean came back from a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Raiders fell behind 3-2 after a power play goal by Ottawa's Eric Clitsome at 18:26 in the second period. Nepean knotted things up at 3-3 on a goal by Christopher Smith at 18:50 in the third period.

Smith had a great game for the Raiders, netting two goals.

Keenan Hodgson also scored for Nepean. In addition, Nepean received assists from Brandon Watt, who had two and David Hopfer, Mitchell Herlihey, William White, and Mac MacSorley, who contributed one a piece.

The Senators stifled Nepean's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Ottawa kept the Raiders' goalie busy throughout the game, and Brett Magnus made 42 saves on 45 shots.

The Senators were helped by Matthew Dupont, who racked up one goal. Dupont scored 8:12 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Clitsome picked up the assist. Ottawa also got points from Clitsome, who also had one goal and one assist. Ottawa also got a goal from Deric Boudreau as well. More assists for Ottawa came via Shawn Lynch, Joe Shecter, Justin Charbonneau, Thomas Crevier, and Zac Tierney, who each chipped in one.

Nepean incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Alexandre Savard-Belanger recorded 26 saves for Ottawa. The Senators incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. For Ottawa, Boudreau and Michael Evelyn were ejected from the contest.
