Carleton Place wins tough contest against Smiths Falls, 3-2

The Carleton Place Canadians and the Smiths Falls Bears were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Carleton Place made the most of its opportunities and won, 3-2.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Tyson Stewart at 15:22 of the third period.

The Canadians were led by Stewart, who grabbed one goal.

Carleton Place put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Smiths Falls to score on any of its four power plays.

Others who scored for Carleton Place included Kelly Summers and Evan Peterson, who each put in one. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Vinny Post and Anthony McVeigh, who each chipped in one.

The Bears kept the Canadians' goalie busy throughout the game, and Guillaume Therien made 39 saves on 41 shots.

Smiths Falls was led by Stefano Momesso, who finished with one goal and one assist. Momesso scored 1:36 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Neil Doef picked up the assist. Karson McCartney also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Brandon Lesway and Chris King, who contributed one a piece.

Carleton Place incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. Michael Pinios rejected 18 shots on goal for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
