Kanata wins tough contest against Hawkesbury, 4-2

The Kanata Stallions and the Hawkesbury Hawks were evenly matched throughout their contest, but Kanata made the most of its opportunities and won, 4-2.

Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Ben Fanjoy secured the win for the Stallions with a goal in the third period.

Kanata was led by Fanjoy, who finished with one goal. Fanjoy scored on the power play 14:11 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Kanata. The Stallions earned a power play opportunity when Damien Charette was put in the box for interference. Alex Stothart assisted on the tally.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 5:41 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Kanata also got points from Devin Fullum, who also had one goal and one assist. Kanata also had goals scored by Nic LaBurn and Kasey Kulczycki, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Chris Harper, JP Langlois, Jason Brochu, and David Higgs, who contributed one a piece.

Hawkesbury's offense rang up 33 shots on Kanata's net.

The Hawks were helped by Carl Faucher, who tallied one goal and one assist. Faucher scored 4:34 into the third period to make the score 2-2. Francis Landers picked up the assist. Hawkesbury additionally got points from Landers, who also racked up one goal and one assist. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Zach Car and Yanik Laliberte, who each chipped in one.

The Stallions' Cole Skinner stopped 31 shots out of the 33 that he faced. Kanata totaled 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major and went 1-for-2 on the power play. The Stallions ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor Cobbold was ejected from the game. Gunner Rivers rejected 22 shots on goal for Hawkesbury. The Hawks totaled 11 minutes in penalty time with three minors and one major and went 1-for-4 on the power play. For Hawkesbury, Daniel Brickley was ejected from the game.
