Cumberland survives Gloucester comeback, wins 6-4

The Cumberland Grads, who led by four goals at one point, survived a comeback attempt by Cumberland and clinched a 6-4 victory.

The Grads led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when Cumberland's Maxime St.Pierre's scored on the power play at 7:43 in the third period to put the Grads up 4-0.

Mark Golberg had two goals and two assists to lead Cumberland. Golberg scored the first of his two goals at 10:14 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Travis Douglas assisted on the tally. Golberg's next tally made the score 6-4 Cumberland with 26 seconds left in the third period. Douglas picked up the assist.

The Gloucester Rangers were unable to stop the Grads from sending pucks towards the net, and Cumberland eventually piled up 46 shots on goal. The Grads outdid their season average for goals scored. This season, Cumberland averages 2.7 goals per contest.

Cumberland also got points from Douglas, who also had one goal and three assists and Riley Hennigar, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Cumberland also got a goal from Martin Frechette as well. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Cameron Roth, who had two and David Bennett and Matt Allan, who contributed one a piece.

Gloucester's offense rang up 36 shots on the Grads' net.

The Rangers were led by Maximian Veronneau, who had two goals and one assist. Veronneau scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 11:59 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Cumberland. A checking from behind penalty on Nicholas Ngwafusi had put Gloucester on the power play. Matt Rosebrook assisted on the tally. Veronneau's next tally on the power play made the score 5-4 Cumberland with 3:54 left in the third period. The Rangers found themselves down a man on Matthieu Desautels's roughing. Greg Jansz picked up the assist. Gloucester additionally got points from Rosebrook, who also registered one goal and one assist. Vincent Guimond also scored for Gloucester. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Tristan Whynot, Dylan McDiarmid, Matt Foget, and Zak Salloum, who each chipped in one.

Kevin Gollmer recorded 32 saves for Cumberland. The Grads incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. For Cumberland, Ngwafusi was ejected from the game. Gloucester's Nate Skidmore stopped 40 shots out of the 45 that he faced. The Rangers incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
