Brockville boosted by Pikul's play in net, beats Pembroke 4-1Brockville Memorial Centre Fri, Jan 17, 2014 Story by Narrative Science.
Andrew Pikul had a standout game with 31 saves, and the Brockville Braves beat the Pembroke Lumber Kings 4-1. Pembroke's power play was ineffective against Brockville's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. The Braves were sparked by Cory Wilson, who tallied one goal. Wilson scored 15:28 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Brockville. Jack Billings picked up the assist. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 19:48 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. Brockville kept the Lumber Kings' goalie busy throughout the game, and Darren Smith made 37 saves on 41 shots. The Braves were often in penalty trouble, as it ended with five minors and two majors for 20 minutes in penalty time. Brockville also got points from Billings, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Brockville included Sean King and Ryan Walter, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Brockville were Nathan Todd, who had two and Eric Israel, Hayden Hulton, and Andrew Peski, who contributed one a piece. Pembroke did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Lumber Kings put an average of 3.4 pucks into the net per game. Brockville was unable to stop Pembroke from sending pucks towards the net, and the Lumber Kings eventually piled up 32 shots on goal. Pembroke struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 23 penalty minutes for seven opposing power plays. The Lumber Kings were led by Mark Petaccio, who scored the team's only goal. Petaccio scored on the power play 6:04 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Pembroke had taken the advantage when the Braves' Jared Henry got sent off for checking from behind. Dylan Staples provided the assist. Team's Henry and Brett Van Stralen were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game. The Lumber Kings ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Colton Keuhl was ejected from the game.
