Cornwall uses early goal to top Ottawa, 2-1

The Cornwall Colts took the lead against the Ottawa Senators in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory.

Cornwall took over the lead for good with a goal by Dean Derouchie at 10:03 in the first period. Ryan Patulli provided the assist.

The Colts' Liam Lascelle was a brick wall in net, as he came up with 31 saves and let only one puck past him. Lascelle certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 1.66 entering the contest.

Cornwall was led by Jay DAmour, who had one goal. DAmour scored on the power play 4:52 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Cornwall. The Colts earned a power play opportunity when Mike Martin was put in the box for cross checking. Marly Quince picked up the assist.

Cornwall managed to stay out of the box better than usual, finishing with one minor for two minutes in penalty time. The Colts ended up below its season average of 18.0 penalty minutes per game.

Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Cal Hofford, who had one.

Ottawa could not produce up to it normal offensive output. The Senators put an average of 4.0 pucks into the net per game. Cornwall was unable to stop Ottawa from sending pucks towards the net, and the Senators eventually piled up 32 shots on goal.

Ottawa was led by Joey Champigny, who scored the team's only goal. Champigny scored 10:30 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Cornwall. Deric Boudreau assisted on the tally.

The Colts registered one goal on three power play opportunities. The Senators' Alexandre Savard-Belanger stopped 19 shots out of the 21 that he faced. Ottawa incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors.
