Staples leads Pembroke over Nepean, 7-2

Dylan Staples had two goals and two assists to lead the Pembroke Lumber Kings to a 7-2 victory over the Nepean Raiders.

Staples' tallies came at 12:15 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pembroke and 9:57 into the third to make the score 7-2 Pembroke.

Nepean's power play was ineffective against Pembroke's penalty kill, which allowed zero goals while shorthanded.

The Lumber Kings made Raiders' netminders to work between the pipes, ripping 50 shots and forcing 43 saves. Ryan Mulder made 34 stops and Brett Magnus made nine. Pembroke put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Raiders to score on any of their six power plays. The Lumber Kings bested their season scoring average. Pembroke averages 3.5 goals per game.

Pembroke also got points from Colin Kruse, who also grabbed two goals and one assist. Pembroke also had goals scored by Felix Chamberland, Trent Durocher, and Steven Johnston, who each put in one. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Dylan Chase, who had three, Mark Petaccio and Jordan Larson, who each chipped in one, and Chris Minns, Ryan Erickson, and Jake Staples, who contributed two a piece.

Nepean's offense rang up 32 shots on the Lumber Kings' net.

The Raiders were helped by Mac MacSorley, who tallied one goal. MacSorley scored 8:06 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Michael Constantine picked up the assist. Christopher Smith also scored for Nepean. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Brandon Watt, who had one.

Darren Smith rejected 30 shots on goal for Pembroke. The Lumber Kings incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Nepean ended with 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major. The Raiders ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alexander Sifton was ejected from the game.
