Carleton Place holds on for 3-1 win against Kemptville

The Kemptville 73s tried their best to erase a three-goal deficit, but the Carleton Place Canadians would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-1.

Carleton Place took a 3-0 lead during the second period, only to have Kemptville storm back on a Dylan Giberson goal 8:13 into the third period to pull to two goals down.

The 73s were stymied by the Canadians netminder Justin Laforest, who stopped 29 shots during the victory. The solid play of Laforest will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.9.

Carleton Place was shut out on the power play, going scoring scoreless on nine chances with a man advantage. The Canadians found themselves short handed often, totaling 32 penalty minutes and allowing nine power plays.

Carleton Place was led by Tyson Stewart, who racked up one goal and one assist. Stewart scored 8:44 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Carleton Place. Anthony McVeigh assisted on the tally. Carleton Place also got points from McVeigh, who also registered one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Carleton Place also got a goal from Dylan Gareau as well. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Devin Campbell and Vinny Post, who each chipped in one.

Kemptville stifled the Canadians' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The 73s could not produce up to they normal offensive output. Kemptville puts an average of 3.3 pucks into the net per game. The 73s could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 34 minutes in penalties during the game.

More assists for Kemptville came via Brandon Seatter and Matt Tugnutt, who contributed one a piece.

Matt Couvrette rejected 20 shots on goal for Kemptville.
