Smiths Falls stifles Ottawa's comeback, gains 5-3 victory

The Smiths Falls Bears came close to giving away a four-goal lead to the Ottawa Senators, but did just enough to escape with a 5-3 victory.

Smiths Falls led by four goals at one point and ended with the victory. The largest advantage in the game came when the Bears' Derian Plouffe's scored on the power play at 8:26 in the first period to put Smiths Falls up 4-0.

The Bears made Ottawa's netminders to work in net, finishing with 33 shots and forcing 28 saves. Ian Andriano made 27 stops and Alexandre Savard-Belanger made one.

Smiths Falls was helped by Brandon Lesway, who registered two goals. Lesway scored the first of his two goals at 49 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Chris King picked up the assist. Lesway's next tally made the score 5-3 Smiths Falls with seven seconds left in the third period. Ryan Duhaime provided the assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Zachary Senyshyn as well. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Chris MacMillan, Michael Buonincontri, Brett Costello, Neil Doef, Victor Beaulac, and Michael Pinios, who contributed one a piece.

The Senators were helped by Matthew Dupont, who tallied two goals. Dupont scored the first of his two goals at 18:27 into the third period to make the score 4-2 Smiths Falls. Michael Evelyn picked up the assist. Dupont's next tally made the score 4-3 Smiths Falls with 1:02 left in the third period. Joe Shecter provided the assist. Ottawa also got points from Shecter, who also had one goal and one assist. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Mike Martin, Eric Clitsome, and Zac Tierney, who each chipped in one.

Pinios recorded 22 saves for the Bears. Smiths Falls incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Ottawa incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
