Nepean uses shootout to best Kanata, 3-2 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Nepean Raiders defeated the Kanata Stallions in a shootout 3-2 (2-0 SO).

The two teams needed five turns to complete the shootout. Nepean's other shootout goal was scored by Michael Vered.

In a losing effort, Kanata was led by Braedan Moffatt, who finished with two goals. Moffatt scored the first of his two goals at 2:56 into the first period to make the score 1-1. Derian Plouffe picked up the assist. Moffatt's next tally made the score 2-2 with 11:17 left in the third period. Plouffe provided the assist.

In the losing effort, the Stallions were paced by Moffatt, who racked up two goals.

The Raiders stifled Kanata's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Nepean forced the Stallions goalie Cole Skinner to work between the pipes, taking 33 shots.

The Raiders were led by Philippe Gadoury, who tallied one goal and one assist. Gadoury scored 1:10 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Nepean. Brandon Watt assisted on the tally. Keenan Hodgson also scored for Nepean. In addition, Nepean received assists from Mitchell Herlihey and Kris Johnson, who each chipped in one.

Kanata kept Nepean's goalie busy throughout the game, and Ryan Mulder made 42 saves on 44 shots.

More assists for Kanata came via Nic LaBurn, who had one.

The Raiders incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors. Skinner recorded 30 saves for the Stallions. Kanata incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
