Ottawa shrugs off penalties, upends Cumberland, 6-1Jim Durrell Complex-Peplinski Wed, Dec 18, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ottawa Senators, which found themselves down a man often, weathered the Cumberland Grads' power play opportunities and emerged with a 6-1 victory. Ottawa was paced by Thomas Crevier, who had one goal. Crevier scored 8:16 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Ottawa. Nicholas Ford picked up the assist. The Senators forced Cumberland's goalies to work in net, totaling 41 shots and forcing 35 saves. Reilly Turner made 30 stops and Kenneth Nichol made five. Ottawa also got a goal from Justin Charbonneau as well. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Ben Hartley, who had one, Joey Champigny, who had three, and Ryan Collins and Hunter Racine, who each chipped in two. The Grads were led by David Bennett, who scored the team's only goal. Bennett scored on the power play 6:59 into the third period to make the score 3-1 Ottawa. A slashing penalty on Joe Shecter had put Cumberland on the power play. Mark Golberg assisted on the tally. Alexandre Savard-Belanger recorded 19 saves for Ottawa. The Senators incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Grads incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors. For Cumberland, Maxime St.Pierre was ejected from the game.
