Nepean uses early goal to top Pembroke, 2-0

Jody Sullivan scored the go-ahead goal in the first period, and the Nepean Raiders held off the challenges of the Pembroke Lumber Kings in a tough 2-0 win.

Sullivan provided Nepean with the game-winning tally when he scored 10:27 into the the first period. Philippe Gadoury provided the assist.

Brett Magnus frustrated Pembroke's offense all game, and stopped 42 shots en route to a shutout. The solid play of Magnus will be reflected in his goals against average, which pre-game was 2.68.

The Raiders were led by Sullivan, who grabbed one goal.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 3:53 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Nepean excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in four chances.

Nepean also got points from Gadoury, who also had one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Nepean were Tanner Williams, Brandon Watt, and Michael Vered, who contributed one a piece.

The Lumber Kings stifled the Raiders' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Pembroke did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Lumber Kings average 3.4 goals per game. Pembroke's offense rang up 42 shots on Nepean's net.

The Raiders totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 0-for-6 on the power play. Nepean ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Mathieu Galipeau was ejected from the game. Sean Keating recorded 27 saves for the Lumber Kings. Pembroke ended with 15 minutes in penalty time with five minors and one major. For the Lumber Kings, Chris Minns was ejected from the game.
