Ottawa outlasts Smiths Falls, 4-2Jim Durrell Complex-Peplinski Sat, Dec 14, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Ottawa Senators gutted out a close 4-2 win against the Smiths Falls Bears. Each team kept the other at bay throughout the game, and Joey Champigny secured the win for Ottawa with a goal in the third period. The Senators were paced by Champigny, who finished with one goal and one assist. Champigny scored 3:40 into the third period to make the score 3-2 Ottawa. Yannick Crete picked up the assist. Ottawa also got points from Ryan Collins, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Ottawa included Deric Boudreau and Geoffrey Lawson, who scored one goal each. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Joe Shecter, Robert Michel, Mike Martin, and Nicholas Ford, who contributed one a piece. Smiths Falls put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow Ottawa to score on any of its four power plays. The Bears were helped by Zachary Senyshyn, who tallied one goal. Senyshyn scored on the power play 14:03 into the second period to make the score 2-2. Smiths Falls had gained a power play chance when Luc Deschamps was whistled for slashing. Victor Beaulac assisted on the tally. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Michael Buonincontri as well. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Chris MacMillan, Daniel Lombardi, and Taylor Henry, who each chipped in one. Alexandre Savard-Belanger recorded 16 saves for the Senators. Ottawa incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Cory Simic made 18 saves for the Bears on 22 shots. Smiths Falls incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
