Carleton Place survives penalties, beats Kanata, 6-2Carleton Place Arena Sun, Dec 01, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Kanata Stallions failed to take advantage of their power play opportunities and the Carleton Place Canadians shook off a number of penalties to win, 6-2. Carleton Place was paced by Andy Sturtz, who finished with one goal and one assist. Sturtz scored 11:48 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Carleton Place. Evan Peterson provided the assist. Carleton Place additionally got points from Brett DAndrea, who also tallied one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Carleton Place included Jim Roll, Tyson Stewart, Vinny Post, and Stephen Bayliss, who scored one goal each. More assists for Carleton Place came via Larry Smith, who had two and Adam Lloyd and Anthony McVeigh, who each chipped in one. Kanata forced Canadians' goalies to work between the pipes, firing 38 shots and forcing 36 saves. Guillaume Therien made 24 stops and Justin Laforest made 12. The Stallions put up an impenetrable defensive front on the penalty kill, and did not allow the Canadians to score on any of their three power plays. Kanata was helped by Daniele Disipio, who had one goal. Disipio scored on the power play 18:17 into the first period to make the score 2-0 Kanata. The Stallions had taken the advantage when Carleton Place's DAndrea got sent off for hooking. Derian Plouffe picked up the assist. Jason Brochu also scored for Kanata. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Jeremy Carigan, Devin Fullum, and Alex Stothart, who contributed one a piece. The Canadians incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. Gunner Rivers made 24 saves for Kanata on 29 shots. The Stallions incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors.
