Hawkesbury vanquishes Kemptville in shootout, 4-3 (1-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Hawkesbury Hawks defeated the Kemptville 73s in a shootout 4-3 (1-0 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams.

Hawkesbury overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Hawks trailed 3-1 after a goal by Kemptville's Dylan Giberson at 15:41 in the first period. Hawkesbury tied things up at 3-3 on a power play goal by Carl Faucher at 15:29 in the second period.

The Hawks' penalty kill excelled, as Hawkesbury gave up zero goals despite allowing seven power plays.

The Hawks stifled the 73s' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. Hawkesbury kept Kemptville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Matt Couvrette made 30 saves on 34 shots.

The Hawks were helped by Joshua Renaud, who had one goal. Renaud scored 3:41 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Kemptville. Stavros Soilis picked up the assist. Francis Landers also scored for Hawkesbury. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Zach Car, Yanik Laliberte, and Jake Roeper, who contributed one a piece.

Hawkesbury was unable to stop the 73s from sending pucks towards the net, and Kemptville eventually piled up 31 shots on goal.

Kemptville also had goals scored by C Quinn and Erik Brown, who each put in one. Other players who recorded assists for Kemptville were David Higgs, Brandon Seatter, Dean Galasso, Matt Tugnutt, Hayden Hanson, and Justin Haasbeek, who each chipped in one.

Matthew Jenkins rejected 28 shots on goal for the Hawks. Hawkesbury incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors. The 73s ended with 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major. Kemptville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Alex Row was ejected from the game.
