Pembroke holds on for 6-4 win against Cumberland

The Pembroke Lumber Kings survived a determined comeback attempt by the Cumberland Grads on the way to a 6-4 win.

A goal by Dylan Staples put Pembroke up 6-3 in the third period, but Cumberland pulled to within two on Tyler McKechnie's tally 17:41 into the third period.

Staples had four goals to lead the Lumber Kings to victory. Staples notched his first tally 10:36 into the first period. He then added goals at 19:48 into the second and at 3:35 into the third.

Pembroke forced the Grads goalie Reilly Turner to work between the pipes, taking 42 shots. The Lumber Kings found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Pembroke averages 3.8 goals per game.

Pembroke also got points from Mark Petaccio, who also had one goal and four assists to lead the team in points and Felix Chamberland, who also racked up one goal and two assists. More assists for Pembroke came via Sam Gleason, Fraser Turner, Trent Durocher, and Patrice Wren, who contributed one a piece.

Cumberland was forced to rely heavily on their penalty kill unit throughout the game, as it racked up 22 penalty minutes.

The Grads were led by Matthew Dupont, who tallied one goal and two assists. Dupont scored 13:00 into the second period to make the score 3-3. Mark Golberg picked up the assist. Cumberland additionally got points from Bobby Williams, who also registered one goal and one assist and Golberg, who also had one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Cumberland were David Bennett, Brandon Grillo, and Maxime St.Pierre, who each chipped in one.

The Lumber Kings' Sean Keating stopped 22 shots out of the 26 that he faced. Pembroke incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Turner recorded 36 saves for Cumberland. The Grads registered one goal on six power play opportunities.
