Crete nets hat trick, leads Smiths Falls to 8-4 win over Gloucester

Yannick Crete lifted the Smiths Falls Bears to an 8-4 victory with a hat trick against the Gloucester Rangers.

Crete notched his first tally 5:41 into the first period. He then added goals at 7:41 into the first and at 15:58 into the third.

Gloucester's five penalties came back to haunt it, as the Rangers let up four goals while on the penalty kill.

Smiths Falls forced Gloucester's goalies to work between the pipes, ripping 39 shots and forcing 31 saves. Nate Skidmore made eight stops and Doug Johnston made 23. The Bears found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Smiths Falls has scored at the pace of 3.8 goals per game during the current campaign.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from Alek Deblois, who also finished with one goal and one assist, Brett Costello, who also grabbed one goal and four assists to lead the team in points, and Nic Marchand, who also registered one goal and three assists. Smiths Falls also had goals scored by Sebastien Barrette and Karson McCartney, who each put in one. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Victor Beaulac, who had three and Taylor Henry and Stefano Momesso, who each chipped in one.

The Rangers kept the Bears' goalie busy throughout the game, and Michael Pinios made 33 saves on 37 shots.

Gloucester was led by Maximian Veronneau, who had one goal and two assists. Veronneau scored 11 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Gloucester. Greg Jansz assisted on the tally. Gloucester also got points from Matt Foget, who also racked up one goal and one assist, Jansz, who also tallied one goal and one assist, and Matthieu Desautels, who also registered one goal and one assist. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Chris Morgan, Lucas Zwaagstra, and Michael DiBello, who contributed one a piece.

Smiths Falls incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Rangers totaled 13 minutes in penalty time with four minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Gloucester ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Connor McLaren was ejected from the game.
