Huge game by Summers boosts Carleton Place over Cumberland, 5-1Navan Memorial Centre Fri, Nov 22, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Carleton Place Canadians' Kelly Summers had a big offensive game, scoring one goal and contributing two assists in his team's 5-1 win over the Cumberland Grads. Summers got on the board by slotting home a power play goal 18:44 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. An elbowing penalty on David Bennett had put Carleton Place on the power play. Brett DAndrea provided the assist. Summers dished an assist on Stephen Bayliss's goal that made the score 4-1 Carleton Place at 15:44 into the third period. He added another helper on Craig Pefley's goal that made the score 5-1 Carleton Place at 17:09 into the third period.Cumberland was stymied by the Canadians netminder Justin Laforest, who stopped 27 shots during the victory. Laforest managed to improve on his goals against average, which stood at 2.95 prior to the game. Carleton Place kept the Grads' goalie busy throughout the game, and Reilly Turner made 28 saves on 33 shots. Carleton Place also had goals scored by Andy Sturtz and Anthony McVeigh, who scored one goal each. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Evan Peterson, who had two and Larry Smith, Tyson Stewart, and Adam Lloyd, who each chipped in one. Cumberland was led by Mark Golberg, who scored the team's only goal. Golberg scored 15:50 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Matthew Dupont assisted on the tally. The Canadians totaled seven minutes in penalty time with one minor and one major and went 2-for-5 on the power play. Carleton Place ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Elias Ghantous was ejected from the game. The Grads incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
