Brockville's Cusin deadly on offense in 11-6 win against KanataKanata Recreational Complex Tue, Nov 12, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brockville Braves relied on the scoring touch of Ryan Cusin, who netted five goals, to beat the Kanata Stallions, 11-6. Cusin got on the scoresheet 12:18 into the first period. He then added goals at 16:16 into the first, at 3:41 into the second, at 18:00 into the second, and at 14:02 into the third.Kanata's power play was ineffective against Brockville's penalty kill, which allowed one goal while shorthanded. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:58 into the third period. Three fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Braves forced the Stallions' goalies to work in net, ripping 33 shots and forcing 22 saves. Gunner Rivers made 14 stops and Cole Skinner made eight. Brockville surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Braves have scored at the pace of 3.5 goals per game during the current campaign. Brockville took advantage of Kanata's penalties, tallying five goals off of eight power play opportunities. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. Brockville additionally got points from Eric Israel, who also tallied one goal and three assists, Nathan Todd, who also registered one goal and five assists to lead the team in points, and Cory Wilson, who also racked up one goal and one assist. Brockville also got a goal from Brett Van Stralen as well. In addition, Brockville received assists from Jonathan Power, who had three, Curtis Harvey, Brett Garvey, Andrew Peski, and Ryan Walter, who each chipped in one, and Connor Bebb and Hayden Hulton, who contributed two a piece. The Stallions made Braves' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, totaling 35 shots and forcing 29 saves. Andrew Pikul made 27 stops and David Poirier made two. Kanata's goal total was higher than its season average. This season, the Stallions average 3.8 goals per contest. Kanata was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled nine minors and one major for 23 minutes in penalty time. The Stallions were led by Alex Stothart, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Stothart scored the first of his two goals at 11:51 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Kanata. Jason Brochu picked up the assist. Stothart's next tally made the score 4-3 Kanata with 18:45 left in the second period. Kanata had gained a power play chance when Shane Riddell was whistled for roughing. Trent Yule assisted on the tally. Kanata also got points from Brochu, who also tallied one goal and two assists. Kanata also had goals scored by Braedan Moffatt, who had one and Kasey Kulczycki, who had two. Other players who recorded assists for Kanata were Ben Fanjoy, who had one, Jeremy Carigan, who had three, and Alex Robinson and Devin Fullum, who contributed two a piece. The Braves ended with 21 minutes in penalty time with eight minors and one major. Brockville ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Wilson was ejected from the game. For the Stallions, Moffatt was ejected from the game.
