The Ottawa Senators tried their best to erase a two-goal deficit, but the Carleton Place Canadians would not be denied the victory and hung on to win, 3-2. Carleton Place made the score 3-1 on a goal by Evan Peterson at 1:03 in the third period, and Ottawa got as close as 3-2 when Zachary Rheaume scored 19:05 into the third period. In a losing effort, the Senators were paced by Rheaume, who registered two goals. Rheaume scored the first of his two goals at 17:38 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Carleton Place. Nicholas Ford picked up the assist. Rheaume's next tally made the score Carleton Place with 55 seconds left in the third period. Ryan Collins assisted on the tally. The Canadians stifled Ottawa's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Senators were unable to stop Carleton Place from sending pucks towards the net, and the Canadians eventually piled up 31 shots on goal. Luke Edwards also scored for Carleton Place. In addition, Carleton Place received assists from Andy Sturtz, who had two and Devin Campbell and Landon Gareau, who each chipped in one. Ottawa did not reach the goal total it has come to expect this season. The Senators average 4.2 goals per game. Other players who recorded assists for Ottawa were Deric Boudreau, who had one. Guillaume Therien made 25 saves for Carleton Place on 27 shots. The Canadians incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. Alexandre Savard-Belanger recorded 28 saves for Ottawa. The Senators incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. |
