Carleton Place rolls over Nepean, 5-2

The Carleton Place Canadians had a two-goal lead after two periods and cruised the rest of the way en route to a 5-2 win over the Nepean Raiders.

Carleton Place was led by Adam Lloyd, who racked up one goal and one assist. Lloyd scored 12:12 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Carleton Place. Larry Smith picked up the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 7:08 into the third period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

The Canadians forced Nepean's netminders to work between the pipes, finishing with 32 shots and forcing 27 saves. Ryan Mulder made 15 stops and Brett Magnus made 12. Carleton Place struggled to stay out of the sin bin throughout the game as it finished the game with 21 penalty minutes for five opposing power plays.

Carleton Place additionally got points from Smith, who also finished with one goal and two assists and Brett DAndrea, who also registered one goal and one assist. Andrew Dodson also scored for Carleton Place. Other players who recorded assists for Carleton Place were Craig Pefley, who had three and Vinny Post and Landon Gareau, who contributed one a piece.

The Raiders racked up the penalties in the contest, and ended with 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. Nepean surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game.

The Raiders were helped by Michael Vered, who grabbed one goal. Vered scored on the power play 15:56 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place. A holding penalty on Jim Roll had put Nepean on the power play. Philippe Gadoury provided the assist. Nepean also got a goal from Christopher Smith as well. More assists for Nepean came via Josh Zizek and Francesco Iannantuono, who each chipped in one.

Guillaume Therien made 24 saves for the Canadians on 26 shots. Carleton Place registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Canadians ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Andy Sturtz was ejected from the game. For the Raiders, Zizek was ejected from the game.
