Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Kanata Stallions defeated the Gloucester Rangers in a shootout 8-7 (2-0 SO). The two teams needed four turns to complete the shootout. Kanata's other shootout goal was scored by Connor Cobbold.The Stallions overcame a two-goal deficit to capture the victory. Kanata trailed 3-1 after a power play goal by Gloucester's Maximian Veronneau at 12:01 in the first period. The Stallions tied things up at 7-7 on a goal by Connor McLaren at 8:54 in the third period. Braedan Moffatt was all over the ice for Kanata, as he tallied two goals and two assists in the win. Moffatt scored the first of his two goals on the power play at 17:21 into the second period to make the score 6-5 Kanata. The Stallions had taken the advantage when the Rangers' Clark Veenstra got sent off for roughing. Trent Yule picked up the assist. Moffatt's next tally on the power play made the score 7-6 Kanata with 16:21 left in the third period. Jeremy Carigan provided the assist. Kanata forced Rangers' goaltenders to work in net, taking 44 shots and forcing 36 saves. Doug Johnston made 21 stops and Danick Boisvert made 15. The Stallions surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Kanata averages 3.7 goals per game. The Stallions capitalized on Gloucester's penalties, netting three goals while skating with a man advantage. Kanata additionally got points from Devin Fullum, who also had one goal and one assist. Others who scored for Kanata included Alex Stothart, who had two and Nic LaBurn and Cobbold, who each put in one. More assists for Kanata came via Jason Brochu and Taylor Egan, who each chipped in one and JP Langlois and Kasey Kulczycki, who contributed two a piece. Kanata was unable to stop the Rangers from sending pucks towards the net, and Gloucester eventually piled up 42 shots on goal. The Rangers bested their season scoring average. Gloucester has scored at the pace of 3.2 goals per game during the current campaign. The Rangers took advantage of the Stallions' penalties, tallying two goals off of three power play opportunities. Gloucester also got points from Ryan Kuffner, who also tallied two goals and two assists and Matt Foget, who also had one goal and two assists. Michael DiBello also scored for Gloucester. Other players who recorded assists for Gloucester were Matt Rosebrook, Chris Morgan, Greg Jansz, Mitch Allen, and Matthieu Desautels, who each chipped in one. Kanata's Gunner Rivers stopped 35 shots out of the 42 that he faced. The Stallions incurred six minutes in penalty time with three minors. Gloucester incurred eight minutes in penalty time with four minors.
