Hawkesbury beats Brockville 4-3 after comeback scare

The Brockville Braves tried to dig themselves out of a three-goal hole, but the Hawkesbury Hawks held on for a 4-3 victory.

Hawkesbury made the score 4-1 on a goal by Michael Guerrera at 18:56 in the second period, and Brockville got as close as 4-3 when Nathan Todd scored 19:28 into the third period.

The Hawks forced the Braves goalie Andrew Pikul to work between the pipes, taking 32 shots.

Hawkesbury was helped by Jacob Soyka, who tallied one goal. Soyka scored 1:44 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Hawkesbury. Hugo Petit assisted on the tally. Hawkesbury also got points from Yanik Laliberte, who also registered one goal and one assist. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Trent Durocher as well. More assists for Hawkesbury came via Francis Landers, who had two and Daniel Brickley, Zach Car, Jonathan Cyr, and Carl Faucher, who contributed one a piece.

Brockville kept the Hawks' goalie busy throughout the game, and Cory Simic made 35 saves on 38 shots.

The Braves were helped by Ryan Cusin, who had one goal. Cusin scored on the power play 4:25 into the second period to make the score 1-1. Brockville had taken the advantage when Hawkesbury's Mathieu Galipeau got sent off for roughing. Eric Israel picked up the assist. Brockville additionally got points from Cory Wilson, who also racked up one goal and one assist to lead the team in points. Other players who recorded assists for Brockville were Ethan Weiss, Connor Bebb, and Hayden Hulton, who each chipped in one.

The Hawks incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors. The Braves' Pikul stopped 28 shots out of the 32 that he faced. Brockville incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
