Pembroke hangs on, beats Cumberland 2-1Navan Memorial Centre Fri, Nov 08, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Pembroke Lumber Kings took the lead against the Cumberland Grads in the first period and maintained it until the end of the game to secure a tight 2-1 victory. A goal 4:50 into the the first period by Mark Petaccio proved to be the game winner, and powered Pembroke to the victory The Lumber Kings had gotten the advantage when Cumberland's Keenan Reynolds was sent off for high sticking. Dylan Staples assisted on the tally.Pembroke was led by goalie Darren Smith, who finished with 39 saves while allowing one goal. Smith certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.77 entering the contest. The Lumber Kings' penalty kill excelled, as Pembroke gave up one goal despite allowing seven power plays. The Lumber Kings forced the Grads goalie Kevin Gollmer to work between the pipes, taking 37 shots. Pembroke was helped by Lucas Gonu, who tallied one goal. Gonu scored 16:20 into the second period to make the score 2-0 Pembroke. Ryan Erickson provided the assist. In addition, Pembroke received assists from Stephan Beauvais, who had one. Cumberland's offense rang up 40 shots on the Lumber Kings' net. The Grads were led by Mark Golberg, who scored the team's only goal. Golberg scored on the power play 18:48 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Pembroke. A high sticking penalty on T Beveridge had put Cumberland on the power play. Matthew Dupont assisted on the tally. Pembroke incurred 16 minutes in penalty time with eight minors. Kevin Gollmer made 35 saves for the Grads on 37 shots. Cumberland incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
