Ottawa pulls away in second, rolls over Smiths Falls, 7-3Jim Durrell Complex-Peplinski Wed, Oct 23, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Smiths Falls Bears was within striking distance after one period, but the Ottawa Senators put the pedal down in the second en route to a 7-3 victory. Ryan Collins was all over the ice for Ottawa, as he tallied one goal and four assists in the win. Collins scored on the power play 12:10 into the second period to make the score 3-1 Ottawa. An interference penalty on Nicholas Trecroce had put the Senators on the power play. Hunter Racine picked up the assist. Ottawa pulled out the victory even though it was hit with 22 penalty minutes. The Senators forced Bears' netminders to work without much rest, ripping 34 shots and forcing 27 saves. Michael Pinios made 15 stops and Nicholas Hodgins made 12. Ottawa outdid its season average for goals scored. This season, the Senators average 4.5 goals per contest. Ottawa also got points from Joe Shecter, who also had one goal and two assists and Deric Boudreau, who also finished with two goals and one assist. Ottawa also had goals scored by Andrew Rossy, who had one and Joey Champigny, who had two. In addition, Ottawa received assists from Michael Evelyn, who had two and Zachary Rheaume and Eric Clitsome, who contributed one a piece. Smiths Falls was ineffective while on the power play, as it was held to one goal off of nine man advantages. Team's forwards weren't the only contributers offensively, and the team's defensemen showcased their scoring touch with two goals. The Bears were led by Victor Beaulac, who grabbed two goals. Beaulac scored the first of his two goals at 4:20 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Smiths Falls. Zachary Senyshyn provided the assist. Beaulac's next tally made the score 5-2 Ottawa with 2:41 left in the second period. Smiths Falls had gained a power play chance when Shecter was whistled for elbowing. Daniel Lombardi picked up the assist. Smiths Falls also got a goal from Karson McCartney as well. More assists for Smiths Falls came via Kevin Millejours, Domenic Camastra, Daniele Disipio, and Stefano Momesso, who each chipped in one. Alexandre Savard-Belanger rejected 21 shots on goal for Ottawa. The Senators registered two goals on seven power play opportunities. The Bears incurred 18 minutes in penalty time with nine minors.
