Hawkesbury vanquishes Cornwall in shootout, 5-4 (2-0 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Hawkesbury Hawks defeated the Cornwall Colts in a shootout 5-4 (2-0 SO).

The shootout lasted for four attempts between the teams. In addition to the clincher, Hawkesbury got a shootout goal from Yanik Laliberte.

The Hawks came back from a three-goal deficit to capture the victory. Hawkesbury trailed 4-1 after a power play goal by Cornwall's Marly Quince at 3:45 in the third period. The Hawks knotted things up at 4-4 on a goal by Laliberte at 19:54 in the third period.

Hawkesbury was paced on offense by Laliberte and Carl Faucher, who combined for six points. Laliberte had two goals and one assist and Faucher also notched one goal and two assists.

The Hawks forced the Colts' goaltenders to work in net, finishing with 35 shots and forcing 30 saves. Jordan Piccolino made 30 stops and Liam Lascelle made zero. Hawkesbury bested its season scoring average. The Hawks average 2.6 goals per game.

Hawkesbury also got points from Faucher, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points. Hawkesbury also got a goal from Francis Landers as well. Other players who recorded assists for Hawkesbury were Daniel Brickley, who had two and Damien Charette, Andrew Reis, and Francois Lemelin, who each chipped in one.

Cornwall's normally stingy defense allowed more goals than usual. The Colts are averaging 2.5 goals against for the season.

Cornwall was led by Chase Pearson, who grabbed two goals and one assist. Pearson scored the first of his two goals at 7:27 into the second period to make the score 1-0 Cornwall. Pearson's next tally made the score 3-1 Cornwall with 1:41 left in the second period. Quince provided the assist. Cornwall additionally got points from Quince, who also finished with one goal and one assist. Matthew Cruickshank also scored for Cornwall. More assists for Cornwall came via Dean Derouchie, Lawson MacDonald, Neil Woolfrey, and Kevin Hope, who contributed one a piece.

Matthew Jenkins recorded 25 saves for Hawkesbury. The Hawks incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors. The Colts incurred 14 minutes in penalty time with seven minors.
