Cumberland falls to Brockville in overtime, 2-1 (OT)Navan Memorial Centre Sun, Oct 20, 2013 Story by Narrative Science.
The Brockville Braves' Mark Golberg scored 12:04 into overtime to beat the Cumberland Grads, 2-1 (OT). Brockville overcame a one-goal deficit to capture the victory. The Braves was down 2-1 after a short handed goal by Cumberland's Hayden Hulton at 5:51 in the third period. Brockville tied things up at 2-2 on a power play goal by Nathan Todd at 1:00 in the fourth period. The Braves were led by goalie David Poirier, who finished with 25 saves while allowing one goal. Poirier certainly lowered his goals against average, which was 2.71 entering the contest. Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 11:56 into the second period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts. The Grads were unable to stop Brockville from sending pucks towards the net, and the Braves eventually piled up 44 shots on goal. Brockville's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Braves finished with 25 penalty minutes. More assists for Brockville came via Shane Riddell and Taylor Henry, who each chipped in one. The Cumberland penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The Grads surpassed its season average of 19.0 penalty minutes per game. Brandon Grillo also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Travis Douglas and Matthew Dupont, who contributed one a piece. Brockville registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. The Braves ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Owen Gill was ejected from the game. Reilly Turner made 42 saves for Cumberland on 44 shots. The Grads registered one goal on seven power play opportunities. For Cumberland, Riley Hennigar was ejected from the game.
