Cumberland uses shootout to best Carleton Place, 4-3 (2-1 SO)

Three periods of regulation and an overtime session were not enough to settle matters as the Cumberland Grads defeated the Carleton Place Canadians in a shootout 4-3 (2-1 SO).

The shootout featured five attempts between both teams. Carleton Place's shootout goal was scored by Craig Pefley. Cumberland also got a shootout goal from Mark Golberg.

The Grads forced the Canadians' goaltenders to work without much rest, finishing with 34 shots and forcing 30 saves. Cory Simic made 19 stops and Justin Laforest made 11. Cumberland's penalty kill was spotless, allowing no goals on three Carleton Place power plays.

The Grads were helped by Martin Frechette, who racked up one goal. Frechette scored 8:46 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Cumberland. Brandon Grillo assisted on the tally. Peter Segouin also scored for Cumberland. In addition, Cumberland received assists from Bobby Williams, Jean-Gabriel Lacombe, Matthew Morin, Riley Hennigar, and Maxime St.Pierre, who contributed one a piece.

Carleton Place stifled Cumberland's power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Canadians forced the Grads goalie Reilly Turner to work between the pipes, taking 48 shots.

Carleton Place was led by Evan Peterson, who tallied one goal and one assist. Peterson scored 19:21 into the first period to make the score 3-1 Cumberland. Stephen Bayliss picked up the assist. Carleton Place also got a goal from Tyson Stewart as well. More assists for Carleton Place came via Anthony McVeigh, who had one and Andy Sturtz, who had two.

Reilly Turner made 45 saves for Cumberland on 48 shots. The Grads incurred four minutes in penalty time with two minors. The Canadians incurred 12 minutes in penalty time with six minors.
