Hawkesbury wins tough contest against Pembroke, 6-5

In a game where neither team could get a cushion, the Hawkesbury Hawks escaped with a 6-5 victory over the Pembroke Lumber Kings.

No lead was more than one goal during the contest, and the winning goal was scored by Daniel Brickley at 16:25 of the third period.

Brickley had two goals to lead Hawkesbury to victory.

The Hawks excelled on the penalty kill, not giving up a single goal in five chances. Hawkesbury surpassed its usual scoring output this season. The Hawks average 2.4 goals per game. Hawkesbury was hit hard by penalties in the contest, and totaled 10 minors and one major for 25 minutes in penalty time. The defensemen of the Hawks were also effective in Pembroke's zone, and came away with two goals.

Hawkesbury also got points from Zach Car, who also racked up one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, Yanik Laliberte, who also registered one goal and one assist, and Carl Faucher, who also tallied one goal and one assist. CJ Stubbs also scored for Hawkesbury. In addition, Hawkesbury received assists from Damien Charette, Mathieu Galipeau, David Higgs, Trent Durocher, Nicolas Vlahos, and Jacob Soyka, who each chipped in one.

The Lumber Kings kept Hawkesbury's goalie busy throughout the game, and Guillaume Therien made 38 saves on 43 shots. Pembroke could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 27 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Lumber Kings were led by Stephan Beauvais, who had two goals and one assist. Beauvais scored the first of his two goals at 43 seconds into the first period to make the score 1-0 Pembroke. Darcy Haines provided the assist. Beauvais' next tally made the score 5-5 with 5:23 left in the third period. Lucas Gonu assisted on the tally. Pembroke additionally got points from Gonu, who also tallied one goal and one assist and Haines, who also registered one goal and one assist. Pembroke also got a goal from Patrice Wren as well. More assists for Pembroke came via Colin Kruse, Felix Chamberland, and Jordan Larson, who contributed one a piece.

The Hawks registered one goal on six power play opportunities. For Hawkesbury, Charette and Francis Landers were ejected from the contest. Nate Skidmore made 19 saves for Pembroke on 25 shots. Team's Mark Petaccio and Ryan Erickson were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
