Huge game by Sturtz boosts Carleton Place over Brockville, 7-2

The Carleton Place Canadians' Andy Sturtz had a big offensive game, scoring two goals and contributing one assist in his team's 7-2 win over the Brockville Braves.

Sturtz found the back of the net 15:07 into the first period to make the score 1-0 Carleton Place and again while 5:38 into the second to make the score 3-0 Carleton Place.

Carleton Place's penalty kill excelled, as the Canadians gave up one goal despite allowing 10 power plays.

Carleton Place forced Braves' goaltenders to work in net, taking 34 shots and forcing 27 saves. Andrew Pikul made 11 stops and David Poirier made 16. The Canadians found the back of the net more times than it usually has this season. Carleton Place has scored at the pace of 4.2 goals per game during the current campaign. The Canadians cashed in on power play opportunities, scoring three goals on five chances.

Carleton Place also had goals scored by Kelly Summers, who had two and Forest Donovan, Connor Merkley, and Vinny Post, who scored one goal each. More assists for Carleton Place came via Craig Pefley, who had four, Jim Roll, Tyson Stewart, and Luke Edwards, who each chipped in one, and Larry Smith, Stephen Bayliss, and Evan Peterson, who contributed two a piece.

Brockville was led by Hugo Petit, who grabbed one goal. Petit scored on the power play 17:10 into the third period to make the score 7-2 Carleton Place. The Braves had gotten the advantage when Carleton Place's Rowan Savidant was sent off for high sticking. Jonathan Power picked up the assist. Brockville also got a goal from Ryan Cusin as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brockville were Matthew Lourenco, who had one.

Justin Laforest made 24 saves for the Canadians on 26 shots. Carleton Place incurred 20 minutes in penalty time with 10 minors. Brockville incurred 10 minutes in penalty time with five minors.
