Early goals doom Cornwall, falls to Carleton Place, 7-2

A four-goal first period deficit cost the Cornwall Colts, which could not recover and fell to the Carleton Place Canadians, 7-2.

Carleton Place's penalty kill excelled, as the Canadians gave up one goal despite allowing six power plays.

Carleton Place made Cornwall's netminders to work all game long, taking 37 shots and forcing 30 saves. James Edwardson made nine stops and Jordan Piccolino made 21. The Canadians surpassed their usual scoring output this season. Carleton Place averages 4.2 goals per game. The Canadians capitalized on the Colts' penalties, netting four goals while skating with a man advantage. Carleton Place's penalty killing units received substantial work throughout the game as the Canadians finished with 26 penalty minutes.

Cornwall could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 26 minutes in penalties during the game.

The Colts were led by Marly Quince, who registered one goal and one assist. Quince scored on the power play 7:47 into the second period to make the score 4-2 Carleton Place. Cornwall had taken the advantage when Carleton Place's Vinny Post got sent off for holding. Pierre Ouellette picked up the assist. Matthew Cruickshank also scored for Cornwall. Other players who recorded assists for Cornwall were Sean King and Chase Pearson, who each chipped in one.

The Canadians' Justin Laforest stopped 21 shots out of the 23 that he faced. Carleton Place ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Tyson Stewart was ejected from the game.
