Smiths Falls uses big games from Momesso and Doef to down Brockville, 5-2

Behind two goals from Stefano Momesso and one goal Neil Doef, the Smiths Falls Bears downed the Brockville Braves 5-2.

Momesso scored the first of his two goals at 7:05 into the second period to make the score 2-1 Smiths Falls. Daniel Lombardi assisted on the tally. Momesso's next tally made the score 4-2 Smiths Falls with 16:08 left in the third period. Smiths Falls had taken the advantage when Brockville's Ryan Walter got sent off for high sticking. Karson McCartney picked up the assist. Doef scored on the power play 17:33 into the second period to make the score 3-2 Smiths Falls. The Bears had gained a power play chance when Jesse Langan was whistled for too many men. Victor Beaulac provided the assist.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 2:57 into the first period. Four fighting penalties were dished out along with two game misconducts.

Smiths Falls stifled the Braves' power play, and did not give up a single goal while down a man. The Bears kept Brockville's goalie busy throughout the game, and Andrew Pikul made 36 saves on 41 shots. Smiths Falls outdid its season average for goals scored. The Bears average 2.8 goals per game.

Smiths Falls additionally got points from McCartney, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Alek Deblois also scored for Smiths Falls. Other players who recorded assists for Smiths Falls were Domenic Camastra, who had one.

The Braves were helped by Nathan Todd, who racked up two goals. Todd scored the first of his two goals at 19 seconds into the second period to make the score 1-0 Brockville. Ryan Cusin picked up the assist. Todd's next tally made the score 2-2 with 12:43 left in the second period. Cusin provided the assist. More assists for Brockville came via Matthew Lourenco, who had one.

Smiths Falls' Michael Pinios stopped 20 shots out of the 22 that he faced. The Bears totaled 17 minutes in penalty time with six minors and one major and went 2-for-7 on the power play. Smiths Falls ran into serious disciplinary problems during the contest, and Nicholas Trecroce was ejected from the game. Brockville totaled 19 minutes in penalty time with seven minors and one major and went 0-for-5 on the power play. For the Braves, Brett Van Stralen was ejected from the game.
