Kemptville falters on penalty kill, loses to Brockville 7-2

Allowing the Brockville Braves to cash in on power play chances sank the Kemptville 73s in a 7-2 defeat.

Ryan Cusin had two goals to lead Brockville to victory. Cusin scored on the power play at 10:23 into the second period to make the score 3-0 Brockville and again while 16:17 into the second to make the score 5-0 Brockville.

Referees had their hands full with a major incident at 8:46 into the second period. Twelve fighting penalties were dished out along with eight game misconducts.

The the Braves penalty box was a popular destination as the team totaled 10 minors and three majors for 35 minutes in penalty time. Brockville surpassed its season average of 27.0 penalty minutes per game. The Braves forced 73s' netminders to work hard to keep the puck out of the net, taking 36 shots and forcing 29 saves. Jacob Lucier made 17 stops and Jacob Tugnutt made 12. Brockville's goal total was higher than its season average. The Braves average 4.0 goals per game.

Brockville also got points from Curtis Harvey, who also tallied one goal and one assist, Jonathan Power, who also registered one goal and two assists to lead the team in points, and Liam Neuman, who also grabbed one goal and one assist. Brockville also got a goal from Cory Wilson as well. Other players who recorded assists for Brockville were Owen Gill and Shane Riddell, who contributed one a piece and Eric Israel, Nathan Todd, and Brett Garvey, who each chipped in two.

Kemptville kept Brockville's goalie busy throughout the game, and David Poirier made 34 saves on 36 shots. The 73s could not stay out of the penalty box, as the team accrued 33 minutes in penalties during the game.

Jesse Blais also scored for Kemptville. In addition, Kemptville received assists from Matt Martin, Jonathan Cyr, and Hayden Hanson, who contributed one a piece.

The Braves registered four goals on eight power play opportunities. For Brockville, Lucas Linville, Matthew Lourenco, and Hugo Petit were ejected from the contest. Kemptville registered one goal on eight power play opportunities. Team's Phil Smith, Aaron Hickie, Matt Tugnutt, and Nicholas Legault were slapped with misconducts and ejected from the game.
